Osseo Area Learning Center kicks off the year - 2017!

The OALC Let's Rap Mentoring program this year is collaborating with Cities United for the Sound Off Stations. This year, we had a special guest join us for the kick-off. This was the honorable Mayor of Brooklyn Park - Mayor Jeff Lunde. The Mayor pledged his support and that of the city of Brooklyn Park, to help create programming that would help ensure the following goals:

  • Help all youth graduate from high school

  • Help all youth that are out of school become employed

  • That all youth remain safe from violence/crime and have a second chance

Here's a brief  list of some of the topics we'll be exploring:

 

Basic life skills

  • Avoiding the School to Prison Pipeline

  • Surviving encounters with the Police

  • Understanding Purpose

  • Image is everything - Learning to tie a tie

  • Changing the Culture 

  • Goal setting

Here's a brief  list of opportunities we'll be providing:

 

  • Experiementing with Recording equipment

  • Opportunities to present vocal arts

  • Experimenting with 3D printing

  • Community engagement at the Black History Month Celebration.
